Work Visa
Some temporary workers need work visas to work in Canada and some do not. It depends on the work you do when you come to Canada. The following must be kept in mind:
- Your employer must prove that he/she could not find a Canadian or Permanent Resident in Canada to do the work. He/She may need to apply for a Labour Market Opinion.
- You may not only need a Work Permit but also meet certain requirements for entering Canada and therefore need a temporary resident visa.
- There are exceptions. Trade agreements with the USA, Mexico and Chile allow for quicker and easier processing for certain business persons and professionals.
- There are also other programs for students, IT workers, religious workers, live in caregivers, seasonal agricultural workers, workers with a High School Diploma or Job Specific Training and the spouses/partners of workers on a temporary work permit.
- IT Workers
- Live In Care-Givers:
- Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program
- You usually apply for a Work Permit from outside Canada but if you meet certain requirements it is possible to apply for one from inside Canada.
- For jobs listed in the NOC A, B and O Levels you can start with your work permit application before the Canadian Visa Office has the approved LMO.
