Becoming A Permanent Resident
 
A person who comes to live in Canada may apply to become a permanent resident under the following:
  1. Federal Program
  2. Business Class
  3. Family Class
  4. Provincial Nominees
  5. Live in Care Giver Class
  6. Canadian Experience Class
  7. In Canada Spousal Class
 
All new permanent residents will receive their first Permanent Resident Card as part of the immigration process. This card expires every five years and you will have to apply for a new one should you wish to travel abroad. To keep your permanent resident status you have to live in Canada for at least two years within a five year period.
